Brief History:

For the 1995 season, Porsche built a car specifically for the GT2 class. In principle, this was a weight-minimized 993 Turbo without all-wheel drive, but with wide fender extensions and wings. It was clear from the start that the GT2 was being developed to have a say in the GT2 racing category (located between GT1 and GT3), because at the time it seemed important to Porsche to be present in GT racing, since here opens up many marketing opportunities. This resulted in three versions of the GT2, the street version, the Clubsport version and the GT2R racing version. The GT2's turbocharged 3.6-litre flat-six was impressively powerful at 424 hp, but Porsche knew that wasn't enough for the GT1 class. To make the 993 GT2 even more radical, Porsche reduced its weight to 1,100 kg and equipped it with two larger turbochargers. By modifying various other engine components, Porsche managed to squeeze an incredible 600 horsepower out of the engine, making the GT2 Clubsport the most powerful air-cooled 911 in history. It was also fast: the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h took around 3.3 seconds and the top speed was stated as 300 km/h. The 3.6-liter engine was paired with a six-speed gearbox to send the 600 hp to the rear wheels. The transmission was retuned to handle the extra power, as have the chassis, suspension and braking systems. The regulations permitted wider tires for the GT2 Clubsport, which adopted the modified body of the 911 GT. The fenders were therefore enlarged even further. But that was not all. Particular attention has been paid to aerodynamics, with a high rear wing and a redesigned front apron with generous air intakes. The base of the 911 GT2 has been reinforced with a welded safety bar, side air intakes for the turbocharger, and the optimized front spoiler with additional air intakes was designed for ventilation of the brakes and oil cooler. Porsche gave the GT2 Clubsport larger side skirts and new race-specific BBS rims with gold spokes, encased in wider Michelin high-performance tires. The stock side windows were replaced with lightweight items. It is also interesting that the usual "GT2" lettering on the rear wing has been replaced by "GT". The interior of the GT2 Clubsport was as race ready as could be. Porsche added a new Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel to increase grip, replaced the door panels with lighter elements, and removed the headliner material. The GT2's fairly comfortable leather seat has been replaced with race-specific Recaro seats with Schroth 4-point harnesses. The coupe was also fitted with an FIA-approved roll cage and fire suppression system. Notable results from 1996 include a second place finish at the 2 Hours of Dijon. 1998 was by far the most successful year for the 993 GT2 with victories in the Paul Ricard and Mosport 4 Hours and 10 podium finishes at various events in Europe and North America. In 1999 he won two races at Monza and in 2000 he triumphed twice in the Jarama Spanish GT. The 911 GT2 EVO was also run at Daytona, Sebring and Le Mans, but with no notable results apart from fifth and sixth places at Daytona in 1997 and sixth at Sebring in 1996. An homage to the original hand painted vehicle, the "Harlekin" by 405 Motoring, Los Angeles.
